Nowadays microbial biodiversity is considered a valuable resource for science and industry, with relevant health and economic implications. The growing awareness of the importance of this biodiversity leads to an increasing recognition of the value of ex-situ collections of microbial strains. The Microbial Resource Centres (CRBs) represent, in fact, the pillars of biotechnological research as they provide expertise and specialized structures for the acquisition, conservation, identification, characterization and safe distribution of cultivable organisms. At the University of Turin (UniTo) there are numerous collections of microorganisms that provide fundamental support to companies, research and teaching institutions. Since 2016 is being created a unique collection, called Turin Universiy Culture Collection (TUCC), following internationally recognized criteria for the conservation of microbial strains (fungi, bacteria). TUCC was born from the union of the microorganism collections present in four departments of the University of Turin: Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology (DBIOS), Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (DISAFA), Department of Public Health and Pediatrics (DSSPP), Department of Veterinary Science (DSV). The platform represents the first phase of the development of the Italian Network of Microorganism Collections, integrating with MIRRi-IT, which sees among its participants the University of Turin; at international level it is nvolved with the European project IS_MIRRI21. In particular, the portal is an indispensable showcase to communicate with external users (schools, research institutions, local authorities and companies) and facilitate interaction and scientific dissemination. It is our ambition to increase the usability of the services provided to stakeholders, accessing data that are not yet fully available or fragmented, improving collection management systems and facilitating the spread of information on the territory.
