The group that works on farm animals acts on two sectors: 1) clinical activities aimed to optimize the reproduction of dairy and beef cattle, with particular emphasis on the study, classification and therapy of uterine infections, experimenting drugs and non-antibiotic products.  The activities are carried out in competition mares and jennies for the production of milk; 2) biotechnological activities on seminal material and on oocytes and embryos. The latter activities are carried out in close collaboration and with the support of the seminology and in vitro fertilization laboratory.

Research activities include:

  • Inspections and consultations in farms to optimize reproduction or for subjects suffering from infertility
  • Field diagnostics, classification and treatment of endometrities and relationship with productivity and nutrition
  • Management of donkey breeding in donkey herpesvirus (AHV) research
  • Application of the Embryo-transfer in cows and mares to improve the selection
  • Semen collection and evaluation to confirm fertility, CASA semen evaluation, in vitro capacitation tests to verify vitality and fertilization ability
  • Preparation of semen doses
  • Oocyte collection and in vitro maturation and fertilization
  • Embryo cryopreservation and vitrification.
