Drug reduction or substitution
This research line includes topics related to:
- the development of analytical methods for quantifying early markers of inflammation, to encourage the adoption of preventive measures and reducing both infections and therapeutic treatments,
- the development and application of biosafety measures, as well as measures for infection prevention and control,
- the identification of alternative breeding systems, based on animal welfare and genetic mechanisms of resistance to diseases, and the identification of the mechanisms underlying innate immunity and microbiome,
- the identification of the molecular mechanisms underlying the onset of resistance to pharmacological treatments, thus limiting their effectiveness,
- monitoring the effectiveness of new approaches in primary production (e.g. the implementation of alternative treatments or molecules or the adoption of good practices for breeding),
- use of probiotics or natural and synthetic peptides in the animal diet.
